Pieve di Marebbe Val Badia - Val Badia
Tradition and history in a small village close to Plan de Corones
The little village of the municipality of San Vigilio di Marebbe represents a resting oasis of peace and a real and proper paradise for those who are looking for a traditional town village far from the big touristic centres.
Pieve di Marebbe, located in a sunny position on the slants of the valley of Marebbe, is 4 km distant from San Vigilio, but it is to be strongly distinguished from this one.
With its 700 inhabitants the little town has managed to keep alive that rural environment that is more and more increasingly difficult to meet in South Tyrol. The village presents a variety of small rural centres and farms and the town centre can be distinguished by its ancient infrastructure made of a church, a noble residence, a rectory and a school.
At "La Pli de Mareo" stood the most antique parish church of Val Badia, whose church dedicated to "Nostra Signora del Consiglio", is one of the most famous sanctuaries of South Tyrol. The village was the birthplace of a considerable portion of the ladin culture, since it gave birth to some of the most important ladin characters such as Jepele Frontull and Angelo Trebo.
Despite this, tourism has always constituted a marginal role for the local population, and this allows the village to remarkably increase the value for the people who are looking for relax, unspoilt nature and delicate tastes of the ladin cuisine.
Situated on the western side of Kronplatz / Plan de Corones, Pieve di Marebbe can easily lead to the district in a very short time. During the summer there is the chance to use the close natural park Fanes-Senes-Braies, a real treasure for the lovers of nature.
